My opinion on the debate we had in TX History (continued)
The second issue we went over was whether or not we should keep the soldiers in Iraq, and I was leaning very much towards no, I think sure send them over to see if there are weapons of mass destruction, o.k. there's none we can take the soldiers back now, oh, o.k. we're looking for the leader of the terrorists now, now he is dead, so we can take the soldiers back now. But no of course we leave them there when we could be taking them back and spending the extra money on something we really need. Plus, there are soldiers there that are dying that shouldn't even be there that don't need to be there, I mean would you really send your own child to be taken away to Iraq or Afghanistan to fight a "war" thats not even going on?
David brought up in the debate that there may be smaller bombs or weapons that are there that we don't know of (David was on the other side) and I argue that we don't have to be the police of the world, we should let them work it out until they directly attack us, and if not pull back on the amount of soldiers we are putting in Iraq.

My opinion on the debate we had in TX History
The first issue that came up was if the government should fund the poor with the tax money that we pay. My opinion was no we shouldn't just give away the money that we earn to people that are mostly high school drop outs or drunks... o.k. that was a little harsh, but still the citizens of the U.S. pay taxes, and the government just gives it away to the poor people. We should spend the tax money on more important stuff we need like helping the environment and the economy.
On the other hand sometimes giving money to the poor can help the economy and if thy use it well and use it to get up and start over and maybe try to get a job it isn't a waste but if the people we give our money to are using it to by drugs or things they don't need we shouldn't fund them. So basically what I'm saying is we should check the background on the people and families we are paying to make sure they will use it wisely but I think we are spending way to much on the poor.

Our new cupcake website
I think we did really good on our website, we included all the things we needed to and it looks good. I hope if you read this you go to our website and buy some cupcakes because they are good, if you are wondering where our website is the url is http://www.anyoccasioncupcakes.weebly.com/. I personally don't like the theme we chose (the buisness is owned by Annie, Amber, and me) it doesn't really complement our fun cupcake air.
Ms. Green can you please send this to you teacher friends expecially Mrs. Garza (6th) because she wanted to know about it. I also like the way it is seperate and is on different pages and it looks really professional. By the way if you want to order you have to be in the greater austin area for us to be able to deliver them.

Something really weird I noticed:
In the font Wingdings
NYC:
a skull, Davids star, and a thumbs up
which could also mean kill:N Jews:Y O.K.:C
I think that is really weird and could be another conspiracy... I mean what are the chances that NYC would equal that???? Is it a code??? Are the microsoft makers ploting against Jews??? O.K. now I sound like David, but really that is kind of weird don't you think???? I looked it up and found out that the Microsoft Office makers claimed it was a complete random pick, and in some of the newer versions made it so NYC was an eye, heart, and a picture of a skyline, so it would say, "I love New York City" on it.

The Consperacy that NASA didn't actually put a man on the moon:
Apollo Moon Landing hoax accusations are claims that some or all elements of the Apollo Moon landings were faked by NASA and possibly members of other involved organizations. Some groups and individuals have advanced alternate historical narratives which tend, to varying degrees, to include the following common elements:
The Apollo Astronauts did not land on the Moon;
NASA and possibly others intentionally deceived the public into believing the landing(s) did occur by manufacturing, destroying, or tampering with evidence, including photos, telemetry tapes, transmissions, and rock samples;
NASA and possibly others continue to actively participate in the conspiracy to this day.
Enthusiasts of this theory claim that:
The astronauts could not have survived the trip because of exposure to radiation
The photos were altered: the Crosshairs on some photos appear to be behind objects, rather than in front of them where they should be
The quality of the photographs is implausibly high.
There are no stars in any of the photos, and astronauts never report seeing any stars from the capsule windows.
Identical backgrounds in photos that are listed as taken miles apart.
The moon's surface during the daytime is so hot that camera film would have melted.
No blast crater appeared from the landing
The launch rocket produced no visible flame.
The flag placed on the surface by the astronauts flapped despite there being no wind on the Moon.
Many commentators have published detailed rebuttals to the hoax claims. According to a 1999 poll conducted by the The Gallup Organization, what Gallup termed an "overwhelming majority" of the US public, some 89 percent, did not believe the landing was faked, while 6 percent did and 5 percent were undecided.

I Think this stuff is completely false who would pull that kind of thing??? What would it gain... umm... I guess it would mean we were the first to the moon, and that we put a man on the moon... forget I said that. I guess the only problem would be if the country figured out the government we had trusted was lying, that probably wouldn't end well... *cough* complete rebel and anarchy *cough*. It is weird though, because my great-grandmother believed in that theory, and I personally think that the theory is wrong, but some of the reasons for the theory were really convincing.

Remember the Titans
The movie
Based on a true story
In TX History we watched Remember the Titans, because we were doing a segregation unit, and let me tell you this is one of my favorite movies ever. Its really funny though because almost every were I go people say, "you look like that girl from Remember the Titans," and while we were watching the movie David yelled out(being David) "who doesn't agree that girl is Grace?" Everyone laughed, and I know this sounds stupid but I kind of look up to that little girl she is really pretty and loves football (I love football too.)
To look back and see that movie and see how the poor blacks were treated is really sad, they were pushed around and some people wouldn't even touch them. I have to say though it is one of my favorite movies. It was a good idea it was really inspiring and reminds us all that we all are equal, and that enemys can unite and PLAY FOOTBALL!!!!!!

What I think the out come of the Volleyball game will be.
I think the outcome of the volleyball game (student vs. teachers) will be the students will win. Here is why, teachers are old (most) they can't move as fast, and the people they will play are 8th graders, most likely people who were on the school volleyball team. I mean plus the students are experienced.
Well today I watched the game, and the teachers won, that was a shocker, I'm seriously surprised. Annie stop choking!!!! (she is at my house right now) Anyways ya the teachers won. I think it is mostly because some of the teams of students didn't even know what the term "bump" was, Ms. Green you feel my pain, it was horrible to watch. It was pretty funny to watch them fail miserably. I'm not going to name any names but the only good teams were on the volleyball team and there were only two teams of those. The way they organized the way to switch in and out was confusing but I kind of want to play next year.

The Book Thief
the tone
The Book Thief was definitely better than I thought it would be, I thought it would be one of those sappy story's about a Jew's struggle through the Holocaust, not that those are bad, just I've read a lot of books like it. It turned out to be a really good book, I couldn't put it down, and decided to just finish it, it is probably one of the most sad books I've ever read, SPOILER!!!! everyone except Max dies, she (Leisel) is left with almost nothing, and has to start new for the second time in her life.
I think the tone of this book is definitely emptiness, though my whole group hasn't finished the book i personally think that all throughout the book Leisel is striped of all the thing that she holds dear to her heart. I also noticed that the author foreshadowed when all Leisel's real family dies, representing what will happen to her new family and friends.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
The whole book
I thought that this was the best book in the series, by the way Ms. Green I think it is really good too, and I will probably re-read it. I like how all the books in the series are kind of like a new adventure for Harry, but always come back and relate to the idea of defeating Voldemort. My favorite chapter was definately the last one when Harry defeats Voldemort, when he is talking to him proving all Voldemorts motives wrong, and it ends in the epic killing of him. I also wish that they would continue the series with like the children of Harry and Ron, kind of like the next generation.
I'm kind of worried to see the rest of the movies, I noticed it seems hard now for producers to make the movie anything like the book. They think that they will get more veiws if they make a new movie out of the base of a book, it is pathetic!!!! And they still get a lot of views! The only series that I think they got right with the movies was The Lord of the Rings, and I notice that it is an older movie... so that is why I'm worried for the outcome of the Harry Potter series.

The Survey we did in TX History
The survey we did TX History was kind of dumb, no offense to the district but what was the point? I guess it is a good way to find out what they think about the school... but if you look on the first survey when you choose your school you could choose any school and say a bunch of bad stuff about them. I also think that it isn't a very fool proof method of getting info on the school.
Hey did anyone watch March Madness? I know it was a long time ago, but I saw the championship and it was pretty awesome. I also watched the Michigan's last game (of course) and UT's last game, comment if you saw any of those. Hope you feel better Mrs. Green.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows
First 2 chapters
The first chapter starts with all the Death Eaters (Lord Voldemort's closest wizards) at their hideout/location and Voldemort is asking them what the have learned. I surprisingly feel kind of bad for the Death Eaters because they have to serve Voldemort or he would come and find him and kill him, I also think of them as wimps because they could have at least tried to stand up to him. Also Draco automatically had to serve him just because his dad did.
The second chapter is about how the Order tries to help Harry harry escape to the Burrow from the Dursley's house, and Spoiler!!!!!!!!! Mad-Eye Moody dies in the process. I think the way that they decided to smuggle Harry away from the Dursley's is kind of funny because they all turn into Harry, even the girls, that would be really weird to turn into a boy if you were a girl... weird picture. I also think it is suspicious that the Death Eaters knew exactly when Harry was leaving, but they didn't know which one it was, so someone must have let it slip that that was when they were leaving.

The seven sided dice
The seven sided dice is kind of like the ways Leisels luck goes, her days, some good some bad and then the worst, seven. The first few are just normal, school, reading to Max, and playing soccer. Then they start to get more interesting, and I really like the way that the author writes the story, as a 7 sided dice I think it is smart and unique.
The 7th side of the dice is kind of sad though because she goes to confront Ilsa Herman, the mayor's wife and she yells at her for firing her mama. From there on their friend ship is kind of broken and Leisel can never go back and read in the library because of it. I personally wouldn't have been brave enough to confront her.

Death
I'm focusing mostly on the narrator death, at first when I read this book I thought that narrator was just an angel of death. But after our first group discussion we talked about it and we all came to an agreement that the narrator is literally death itself. Multiple quotes in the book show state that it is death, "As for Hans I think he was doing his best to avoid me."(Page 174, The Book Thief) and "You see? Even death has a heart."(Page 242, The Book Thief).
Once we had decided that it was defiantly death we couldn't decide if it was a girl or boy, we all knew it was probably a boy, and why? Because, even though I don't want to say it, boys are usually strong and more the death like type, they die earlier. Then Noah found on page 5 "Still, it's possible that you might be asking why does he even need a vacation? What does he need distraction form?" So we finally agreed that the narrator is death and he is a male.

The whole book
This is my third time reading this book and I really like it. It hooks me at the beggining and it keeps me hooked, it is really action packed, because I get distracted really easily, I have about 5 books on my book shelf at home that arejust half read. Rick Riordan also weaves some comedy with Greek mythology really well. The way he uses Percy Jackson, the main character, helps you feel what the character feels, and you feel sorry for him when he is sad and your happy when he is happy.
If there was one thing I had to change I would change the way they made the movie, it had nothing to do with the book and they didn't choose the right actors to play the parts. The movie also ruined my image of the characters. If you were to read this book I would definetely recomend it, but I would also read the rest. Even though I think the movie stunk I hope they make the other books movies because

The poem I got in LA (the one you do the butterfly on) was kind of confusing, and the fact that a child wrote is amazing expecially since they were going through the Holocaust. My poem I think could have two meanings, either the kid is in a hospital after WWII or he is in a ghetto.
But today I saw the performance of I Never Saw Another Butterfly, and I think that they were in the ghetto and at the time this kid wrote this there were fifteen people with the kid at the ghetto. At the beginning when it talks about fifteen beds, fifteen bodies, its talking about the chldren that are there, and when it talks about not wanting to leave, the author and the children there have figured out that the people who go to the camps die, because they never come back.

The Book Thief
Part I
The first part of the Book Thief is about how Liesel is taken to the Hubermann household because her mother wasn't healthy enough to feed both of them, and on the way her brother died, so she is having nightmares about her brother. Hans (the foster father) is really nice and comforts her every night when she has nightmares, but Rosa (the foster mother) isn't as nice, she's always swearing, at Liesel and Hans.
Before now Liesel had found the book The Grave Digger's Handbook in the snow by her brothers grave. I think it is horrible and surprising that Liesel had never seen or read a book before, and that she can't read either! I could read when I was 4 years old! I can't even imagine not being able to read, all thing you wouldn't learn. I also think it is funny how all the great nations make sure only a few people can read, because they don't want to loose their power, we're so greedy sometimes.

The Book Thief
page 1-27
The beggining doesn't start with introducing and explaining the character so I think that really hooked me, a bit of mystery to reel the reader in. I also like how the author put little bold sections in to help explain thing that are in the book. At the beggining I couldn't tell who the point of veiw was from, but a little ways into the book it kind of explained who was telling the story, it is kind of like and angel, that delivers souls to the underworld or something.
I kind of felt glad that the main character Leisel was not a jew because it's kind of boring when all you get to read about is how dusty the attic is or how horrible the concentration camp is, this book seems a little more interesting. I truthfully hope that Leisel doesn't get caught, and that would be fun to be able to steal books from the bad guys, you might feel like your helping to defeat them and help the good cause.
Though I don't htink I wouold be brave enough to steal from Nazis, knowing that you might get shot down any time.

The Tiger's Eye
Chapter 1-2
I read the first book, The Palace of Laughter, and I thought it was pretty good book, the ending was kind of depressing (but i'm not going to say anymore). The second book I got a long time ago but I never got hooked on it and out of desperation I started reading this, its actually not that bad. So far the Bolsillo Brothers Circus has come and picked up Little and Miles to help at the circus.
I think the only problem with this ook is how its more like a list of events, though interesting, they aren't very detailed. The first part of the chapter explains Cornado getting out of the asylum, and really that is scary because he was in the asylum because he tried to suck the happiness out of people. He is also out to get Miles (the main character) because he is the one who landed him in prison. Miles is also an orphan, and if I had to go through all this I would be really scared, and on top of all that he gets chopped in half by Stranski the Magician.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Chapter Three
In the third chapter Dumbledore comes to fetch Harry Potter from the Dursleys' house, it's really funny because he just came without the Dursleys knowing that he was coming. Plus they really hate magic and Dumbledore does everything with magic from opening the door to pouring the wine, and the Dursleys' really hate it.
At the very beginning of the chapter they show all these stories in the Daily Prophet about Harry and Dumbledore and how they aren't crazy, and that Voldemort did actually come back, and it's funny how they totally go back on their word. Now that I look back I think it was good after all that the author started with the first chapter because there wasn't much to write about Harry at the Dursleys because it was probably the same.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
First Chapter
The first chapter was kind of confusing because it didn't start with Harry at the Dursleys house instead it starts with Cornelius Fudge coming to visit the muggle Prime Minister. I also didn't know that wizards made contact with muggles, I thought that they tried to hide themselves from the muggles.
I kind of feel bad for the Prime Minister, because Fudge just walks in tells him all this wizard stuff then expects him to get it, and then it makes him look really dumb. It was also kind of boring because they just talk about everything going on thart I already know about and I really don't care what the PM thinks about, I hope that the second one is better or I might lose interest in the book. Then the new minister of magic comes in and talks to him more but is way rudder, and at that point I feel really bad for the PM. Also because magic is responsible for the bridge braking and he can't tell the citizens the truth!!!!!!!

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Chapter Two
I think the second chapter was a better starter than the first chapter, because the first chapter didn't really make since to me. In this chapter Narcissa (Draco Malfoy's mom) goes to Snape to ask him to protect her son, because he is doing something very dangerous for Voldemort and his mom is worried.
I think that it's kind of confusing because I thought Snape was on Dumbledore's team, and that he is just pretending to be a Death Eater (Voldemort's faithful servants) just to get information to Dumbledore, but he has so really good excuses to give Bellatrix... he also takes the Unbreakable Vow to watch over him. But hten there is the fact that he is in the Order of the Phoenix, and that Bellatrix doesn't trust him. The way the author wrote it you would really feel bad for Narcissa, because if my only son was going on a very dangerous mission, I would be worried too.

My lost in Walgreens story
I think that I did pretty good on it. The lead was the best part I think it really could catch the reader, it wasn't a Ba-Da-Bing but it was an interesting question. I'm just not sure I kept the readers attention though because it was kind of boring in the middle and I really need to work on that because I want to get comended on the TAKS test.
Even though the middle wasn't that good, I think my truism at the end was OK but that was all that tied it up. I think that if I had spent a little more time on it I could have tied it in a little better.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Chapter 3-5
Harry has just met the order of the phoenix, a secret organization that fights against the Dark lord Voldemort. At the end of the 4th book Voldemort comes back to life, I think you have already read the book... if not, sorry, anyways he comes back to life and Harry watches this all happen, and to top it all off, none of the ministry people believe that Voldemort came back to life so he is pretty much alone.
Lets just say that I'm definitely not as brave as Harry Potter, I probably still be pretty depressed that my parents died and the fact that his worst enemy came back to life, and half the school hating him would make me go crazy. Harry must feel really left out since his friends are both prefects and he is not, I also think that Harry should have gotten the badge instead, but I am glad that Ron finally got some fame, he definitely deserved some. I'm really glad though that all the books aren't the same thing just with different characters and settings, like some books, they all have originality and I must say I can never put that book down, it is so addicting.

The two stories we read in LA on Friday
The two stories that we read were really different... I think the person who wrote the first one copied the story we read in that big packet, just in a different point of view. Plus that story sounds really weird coming from a 7th graders mouth, rather than a 10th graders mouth. And even if he wanted it to sound a little realistic don't say you have a 14 year old daughter when you are 13! I personally think he should have gotten a 1 not a 2, and I'm not surprised that Ms. Green was worried when she read this paper.
The second story wasn't that bad, it was pretty believable even though it was fiction. Though I think it should have gotten a 3 not a 4 because it wasn't written very well, it kind of just listed the events didn't really describe the key moments and the ending wasn't very good either. But I think I can learn a lesson from reading these two narrative, number one if your going to write fiction make it believable, number two don't write about the topic that the first one was about, and most of all indent all my paragraphs.

Eldest
Pages 243-321
In the part that I read (I'm focusing mostly on Eragon because the book goes back and forth between two main characters) Eragon met his new teacher Oromis the only other rider alive that still has a dragon. His best friend is Arya, and his dragon's name is Saphira.
He recently fought the Shade which left him with a scar on his back so that he cannot bend it to far. If I were in that situation, that would really stink because I need my back for a lot of things, and if every time I streched it to far I almost feinted I don't know what I would do. Plus his master makes him strech and do flexibility exercises and he usuallly has 2-4 episodes with his back a day, that would put a lot of stress on me expecially because I play lots of sports that I need my back in. I sure hope his scar goes away Oromis says it will but I am doubtful.

The Passage on College Essays
Initialay I thought it was pathetic that the essay should count as more than half of the percentage of getting into top colleges like harvard. Its not like your every going to write a personal essay in real life and they count almost more than the grades the students make in all their four years!!!! Then my mom and I argued over the subject and its kind of like if you had a bunch of top notch soccer players but only 20 spots, how would you choose? Well, mabye one is bratty and a ball hog, while the other is a good team player, but without tryout or info on them they would be equally good. Its like with the Essay if you have 25,000 students that are applying for Harvard and only 10,000 spots how do you choose? With an essay you can kind of see who you would want at your school or on your team.
With that said I would also like to argue that at the highschools they should put a class that you can take to focus on Personal Narratives, mabye then you would be more prepared for that essay that decides if you get into a college or not. I see how it isn't required because you only use it once in your life, but it is still important if you want to go to a good college.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
the first two chapters
I can't believe that Harry had to go back to the Dursleys, it must be horrible living with such horrible people and plus they made him survive on carrots and pomegranate. I don't think it was fair that he has no other relatives that could take care of him I mean that can't be all his relatives!
I'm glad that the Weasleys took him to the World Cup because I think he will like that. I like the way the author starts out the book every time at the Dursleys and he somehow escapes it's always Hagrid or the Weasleys that come to save him. And it is really funny how every time the Defense of dark arts teacher always leaves or dies and a new one replaces them. So far I really like the Harry Potter series it really is a good series no wonder they got famous, I never get bored from it.

The Battle of the Labyrinth
The whole book
I definately liked this book it was a great sequal to the 3rd book, and it definately paved a path for the last one. I really want Percy and Annabeth to get together and when she is mad at him in the beggining it really doesn't make me want to read the book but all the rest is good.
my favorite part is probably Geryons farm you may think i'm wierd because I think that but it is really interesting, how he gets all the poop out of the barn is amazing I thought all his friends were going to die, but of course he wouldn't kill off the main characters. I also like how The seires is ment to be a series not a bunch of books made at the last second to get more money.
